Messenger Ad - the Bot Payload

Make sure your Messenger Ad is linked to your bot

Setting up a Facebook Messenger ad that leads to a bot for the first time?

The bot must be live and attached to your Facebook Page. 

After clicking on the Facebook Ad the user is taken to the Messenger ad and from there they will click the final button that will open up the bot.

For the bot to send back the correct message, you have to enter a Bot Payload. 

The bot payload is a very specific message ending with the unique 5 digit number found at the end of each bot messages Deep Link URL

In the Facebook ad manager create a campaign with the objective of Messages.
Follow the ad set up instructions, the audience, reach, budget. Make sure the correct Facebook page is attached to the ad.
Once you reach the Messenger Set up, click Start Conversations, then click Edit.

Once you have clicked edit, click Frequently Asked Questions

Once you have clicked Frequently Asked Questions you will see a drop down with the choice of an FAQ or a Quick Reply or Buttons, scroll down to Buttons and click on the word.

When you see the option of Button #1, click on Action and then choose 'Send a postback'

Now you will see Bot Payload and enter @BP:MESSAGE: and the 5 digit bot message URL found in the deeplink of the message you wish to connect. In this case @BP:MESSAGE:13280
